STATEMENT of INTENT:
My paintings reflect a modern relationship with nature, one that is no longer found in grand untarnished vistas, but preserved now only in the liminal spaces between modern developments. Nature reasserts herself in second generation forests with meadow clearings and tended paths. Visual memories of ephemeral morning light, which I have collected over many seasons, coalesce into tranquil scenes outside of time. I make the kinds of paintings I myself appreciate and enjoy: I use suggestions to evoke mood, select details intentionally, torture the surface, and fill receptive grooves and pits with delicate glazes.
